Version 5.5

Find below an overview of the most important changes:

Hybrid Multimedia Engine

Finally, our multi media processor has a new, powerful engine for handling multimedia files. Both the MCI and DirectShow technologies are now available to use virtually all files that can be played back on your computer, e.g., in the Windows Media Player. You don't really have to be aware of the technology, it works "under the hood", simply giving access to a wider variety of multimedia formats and improved performance.

Use Multimedia Keys

When operating the Multimedia coding tool, you can now use the special keys available on multimedia keyboards. The AudioTranscription F4 pedal in standard configuration toggles Play/Pause.

Talking Head

Select text in the primary document or select a quotation or memo. Choose "Speak ..." from the output menu. Then lean back, close your eyes and let ATLAS.ti read the selected passages. Think of it as an alternative way to "contact" your data. May not always work perfectly, it depends on voices and base speech technology (SAPI 5.x) available on your computer. Should not be an issue under Vista and XP.

HU Editor's Wallpaper

How very important!-) Via the context menu, the wallpaper display can be switched off. Instead you get a random-color screen with the option to display codes in a code cycle. This is meant as a test to see how good a new display technology we use. Should run on all computers out there. This is a glimpse of a new image PD management in version 6 (due to be released later this year).

Font Management

A new "Apply to:" button in the general preferences' font section allows you to spread the selected font to all remaining contexts. This is a considerable shortcut to specifying the font for each context one by one. Hold down the CTRL key to keep the original font sizes.

Improved: Google Codes

Select one or more codes in the code manager, then select Search Google from the Miscellaneous menu. This opens your web browser and presents the hits (if any).

And many other improvements and fixes

Right-to-left language bug removed, print link comments in code hierarchy report, text converter problems fixed, GDI+ graphics engine integrated, magnetic windows (query tool, network tools), and more.
