ATLAS.ti 5.2 (= Service Pack 4)

We are proud to present Service Pack 4, the accumulation of the latest user requests and suggestions for added features from the past 12 months. Please find important information and installation notes by downloading this document (36 kB). Then install the FREE service pack that will upgrade your software to version 5.2 simply via the regular update process.

Why ATLAS.ti 5.2 and not simply another build number? Well, there are several reasons, several of them technical. But the main reason is that we think that the sheer amount of major fixes, improvements and most of all add-ons since 5.0.60 calls for an increase of the "minor" version number. Once you start using ATLAS.ti 5.2, you will agree with us that this is once again a major leap forward in quality that truly makes this the best ATLAS.ti ever.

NOTE: Version 5.2 incorporates all the changes delivered as fixes and service packs since the first release of ATLAS.ti 5.0 in June 2004 (Version 5.0.60). For a complete list of changes please refer to Update History

ATLAS.ti v5.2 - Features Overview

Cooccurrence Explorer Improved

Check the context menus available when right-clicking on a branch of the Cooccurrence Explorer. A number of comfortable expansion options are available. For instance, displaying all quotations taking part in code cooccurrences are displayed with one click.

Multimedia Processing

Improved keyboard control and supported files. Certain MPEG files gave ATLAS.ti a hard time because of the inability to play files that were not using frames correctly. Now we are even better than WMP for some weirdly coded multimedia videos.

Video display has changed a bit and you can jump to original size with a double-click on the video window (outside the actual video frame, though).

New Regular Expressions Engine

Although our RegEx engine wasn't so bad, this one is miles ahead of what you've used so far.

Word Count per Code Matrix

Found next to the Code-PDs Table option, you may now create a table of wordcounts per code and PD. Whatever that may be good for!-)

Remote PDs from the Web and FTP Servers

Assign PDs by dragging a link directly from your web browser into the PD Manager window. But caution is advised: using web-based documents is one thing, and indeed a very powerful option. But as far as contents is concerned, the files need to comply to the restrictions in regard to contents (playin text, rich text, etc.). Furthermore, make sure you have a reasonably fast Internet connection or some operations might slow down considerably.

Support VPN Work Groups

Not really new, but due to our locking mechanism, teams may work on a shared folder made available through a Virtual Private Network. This reduces the need to exchange projects and documents via copy bundle, mail attachment and a strict protocol to follow.

Auto Color Mode for Code Managers

The hard to grasp but pretty looking auto color mode available in the network editor for some time has now entered the code manager as well.

Append System Reports to Error Report Mail

Whenever a bug occurred, the generation of a system report was offered and the pledge to send this to bugsreport@atlasti.com. However, finding and attaching this report file was not trivial. This is now done by using the MAPI mail protocol if installed and active on your computer.

Print Multiple Docs with Margin

Select several PDs in the PD Manager, then click Output|Print with Margin from the Managers Output menu.

Improved Object Explorer, Forests & Trees

All hierarchical views have been extended with additional expand options via their context menus.

Added Double-Click to HyperLink Manager

Double click link in hyperlink manager displays a popup menu offering to travel to the link nodes (similar to margin behavior).
