Installing Updates and Service Packs

This page shows you how to use the Live Update Service Pack Manager to install available updates and services packs.

IMPORTANT: This procedure will work as described ONLY as long as your version number is AT LEAST 5.0.66. This is automatically the case if you a) purchased the program after May 6, 2005, or b) already installed Service Pack 3.

Here is how to determine the version number. If it is lower than 5.0.66, please continue here.

1 For the first step, make sure that

  • a. you have Windows administrator rights on your computer
  • b. your Internet connection is active

2 Now open the Service Pack Manager from the ATLAS.ti main menu (Tools | Servicepack Manager). You should see the following message:

3 Confirm by clicking YES.

4 ATLAS.ti now opens the Servicepack Manager and connects to our Update Server in order to check for available updates for your version / license. This may take a while, depending on network traffic and connection speed. - Important: If your firewall asks you about accepting this connection, you should allow it. Otherwise, the update cannot be performed.

If the server was successfully contacted, your current version will be examined and available updates / service packs identified.

5 If you are already up-to-date, you'll see a message to that effect:

6 If updates are indeed available, they (yes, there can be MORE than one update at a time!) will be displayed in the top list.

By clicking on an update / service pack, you can view whatever information is available for it. In the bottom section (that also shows the progress), info about the update is displayed.

7 To start the download, you do not need to select any of the individual updates. ATLAS.ti always activates ALL available updates at once. Simply click DOWNLOAD. The Manager will show the download progress :

8 Once the download is complete, installation can begin. Click the INSTALL button.

9 The installation process itself should be a rather swift affair. It consists mainly of uncompressing and moving files to their respecitive directories.

10 Once this is done, you'll see the final message (which may or may not contain additional instructions).

11 You should now quit ATLAS.ti and restart it for all the changes to take effect.
